Online Webinar Series

Get your season off on the right foot and set yourself up to have a cracker of a season!

When: May 12th starting at 12:30pm

June 1st is rolling around fast and many of you will have new staff joining your team – whether they are farm assistants or a new sharemilker, they are all part of your team. Take the time now to think about how you manage communication within your team, how you can utilise that first month on farm to get people up to speed so when everyone has their heads down working hard during calving everything can run as smoothly as possible.

Join us for our webinar to listen to farmers Jarred Clode and Pete Turner speak about how they use our visual communication tools to help with communication within their team and how it has added value to their businesses. We will also hear from Jana Hocken, talking about Lean Management and how visual communication goes hand in hand with creating efficiencies on farm. Finally, Kane Brisco will speak about how keeping fit and healthy is vital for physical and mental wellbeing.

The start of 2020 has already been a bit of rollercoaster so let’s work together to make the 2020/21 farming season a cracker of a season!

OUR GUEST SPEAKERS

Jana Hocken

Jana is the author of The Lean Dairy Farm and is an experienced and passionate lean practitioner, coach and change agent whose background is with Toyota. Jana began dairy farming with her husband Matt in 2013 on a 1000 cow Dairy Farm in the Manawatu. Straight away she recognised that farming could benefit from lean tools and philosophy to save time, reduce waste, reduce costs, improve quality and performance and create an engaged, high performing team.

Kane Brisco
Kane and his wife Nicole are 50/50 sharemilkers on 105ha (70eff) located in Meremere just out of Hawera, Taranaki. Kane has been farming for 15 years the last 10 in the dairy industry the previous 5 were sheep & beef. Most of the season Kane manages the farm workload on his own with Nicole working part time as a registered nurse, he has a regular relief milker and Nicole does as much of the calf rearing as possible. 18 months ago they created FarmFit as a way to inspire and inform those in their community on things they can do to look after and improve all aspects of their health, and in turn the benefits it can provide to their work and private life. Kane’s background of Boxing, Rugby and recently Trail running has let him see a wide variety of fitness and health trends. Personally as a youngster he found it difficult to find information where now days there is an abundance of health & fitness information that is unfortunately generally confusing, misinformed and nearly always with a hidden agenda. They firmly believe that physical and mental health are intertwined and should be a part of everyone's daily life.

Jarred Clode
Jarred manages dairy operations for Te Hou Farms Limited Partnership, a 400ha dairy farm milking 1080 dairy cows at peak and 250 R1s along with a drystock block for another 250 R1s. He has been farming for the last 18 years and came up to Bulls in the lower North Island 3 seasons ago from Canterbury. Jarred manages 6 staff members during spring and 4 fulltime staff members for the rest of the season. Their VizLink custom whiteboard is one of the tools used to communicate with team members as Jarred places a lot of emphasis on the need for having good systems and communication in place to work effectively.

Pete Turner
Pete runs a 1,500 hectare farm in Mossburn running 20,000 stock units made up of sheep, beef, deer and dairy bulls. This farm has been in Pete’s family for the past 52 years with Pete running it for the last 23. They have a 200 hectare run off down the road that they run the dairy bulls on and also manage a 100 hectare dairy farm and runoff with 700 dairy cows. His team is made up of 4 full timers and himself where they do all the contracting themselves. VizLink products are a new addition to the team and they have invested in PVC roll up maps and pads of maps and a year planner. The year planner is being used to show things like when the ram has gone out and when lambing will start and also to show team members holidays.
